Big Boi Biography

Antwan André Patton, better known by his stage name Big Boi, was born on February 1, 1975, in Savannah, Georgia. He developed an early interest in music, thanks to his grandmother and uncle, who exposed him to various genres, including the music of his favorite artist, Kate Bush. Patton attended Tri-Cities High School, a performing arts magnet school in Atlanta, where he met André Lauren Benjamin (stage name André 3000). They formed the southern hip hop duo Outkast in 1992, signing with LaFace Records.

Together, Patton and Benjamin released several successful albums as Outkast, including the double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003. Big Boi's portion, Speakerboxxx, featured a style similar to their previous work, while The Love Below was more experimental. He released two singles from Speakerboxxx, "The Way You Move" and "Ghetto Musick", both of which achieved significant success. In November 2005, Big Boi released a mixtape/compilation album, Got Purp? Vol 2, featuring the single "Kryptonite".

Big Boi embarked on his solo career with his debut album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, released in July 2010, which was well-received by critics. In an interview with The Village Voice, he revealed that he was working on a follow-up album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, released in November 2012. The album featured guest appearances from ASAP Rocky, Ludacris, T.I., Little Dragon, Phantogram, Kelly Rowland, and B.o.B. Later in 2012, he disclosed that he had already written ten songs for his third studio album, Boomiverse, which was released in 2017.

Big Boi's successful music career has also extended to acting. He appeared as a guest star on seasons 3 and 5 of Nick Cannon's Wild 'n Out and had a musical guest appearance on Chappelle's Show. In 2006, he made his feature film debut in ATL and Idlewild, followed by a starring role in Who's Your Caddy? in 2007. He has also appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the horror anthology web television series Creepshow. In 2008, Big Boi collaborated with the Atlanta Ballet for a show entitled big, which combined live music and dance performances.
