Big Gigantic is an instrumental electronic hip hop and jazz duo based in Boulder, Colorado, comprising Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken. Known for their innovative blending of electronica, livetronica, hip hop, and jazz, they've made a name for themselves both in the United States and internationally. The band has showcased their unique sound at numerous music festivals, such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Ultra Music Festival, and Bonnaroo. Since 2012, they've consistently sold out their festival Rowdytown at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and have toured the US, Europe, South America, India, and Japan.
Their releases feature collaborations with a wide range of hip-hop artists, singers, and other musicians. In 2016, their album 'Brighter Future' featured hip-hop artists like Waka Flocka Flame and Logic, singers Jennifer Hartswick, Rozes, Angela McCluskey and Natalie Cressman, along with collaborations with GRiZ and Cherub. This album debuted at number two on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart. In February 2020, Big Gigantic released their seventh album, 'Free Your Mind', and embarked on a 26-date tour beginning in March.
In addition to their primary musical venture, Lalli and Salken also partake in side projects. They are part of the jam band/electronica supergroup 'Gigantic Underground Conspiracy', a collaboration with members from the Disco Biscuits and the Underground Orchestra. Moreover, they're part of 'Big Grizmatik' alongside GRiZ and Gramatik.
Big Gigantic, known for their dance act material and uplifting festival performances, exhibits a unique approach to genres and collaborations. They are not strictly defined by EDM, as they incorporate elements of house, dubstep, jazz, funk, and modern hip-hop. They made their debut in 2009 with 'Fire It Up' and followed it quickly with the 'Wide Awake' EP, primarily rooted in dubstep and left-field hip-hop with Lalli's saxophone occasionally acting as the lead instrument.
Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken, the powerhouse behind Big Gigantic, first met while performing in Boulder. Their partnership materialized during the MySpace era when Lalli, who has a master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music, was making music on his computer. He asked Salken, a drummer since the age of three, to augment his productions, leading to the birth of Big Gigantic.
Their successful journey continued with the 2016 follow-up, 'Brighter Future', which featured a high-profile supporting cast, including Angela McCluskey, Rozes, Logic, Waka Flocka Flame, Pell, Naaz, and Cherub. This album reached number two on the dance/electronic chart. The duo released a series of singles from 2018 to 2019, leading to the 2020 release of 'Free Your Mind'. They also issued an EP, 'Leisure Season, Vol. 1', in 2021 and prepared for the release of 'Brighter Future 2' in early 2022.
