Amber Ruffin Biography

Amber Ruffin is an American standup comedian and comedic writer born in 1979. The Omaha native would begin comedy in her adult life, starting at a local improv theater. Ruffin would tour different venues and soon connect with theater owners in Chicago who offered her gigs in Amsterdam and beyond. She would move to Los Angeles to further pursue her career in 2011.

Ruffin would join Story Pirates and see success that soon translated into an audition for Saturday Night Live. While she did not receive the part, she was contacted by alumni Seth Meyers and began writing for Late Night with Seth Meyers. Ruffin soon began appearing in reoccurring shorts within the show and was brought on by Comedy Central in 2017 to write and narrate a number of programs. In 2020, she began working on her own self-titled show.

Ruffin has been featured in a number of major publications including the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, and Time Magazine, among others. She has written for two Golden Globe Award shows, in addition to releasing a book in 2021 with Lacey Lamar which landed on the New York Times Best Seller List. Ruffin has worked with HBO, NBC, and Netflix, among others.

Amber Ruffin is currently working with Matthew Lopez to write a Broadway adaption of Some Like It Hot, and continues to write for Seth Meyers show.
