Noah Kahan Biography
Noah Kahan, born January 1, 1997, in Strafford, Vermont, is an American singer-songwriter known for his folk-infused pop music. He began writing songs at age 8 and shared his early work on SoundCloud, which helped him gain initial exposure. Kahan attended Hanover High School in New Hampshire and started his music career by releasing singles after signing with Republic Records in 2016. His debut single, "Young Blood," was released in January 2017, followed by additional singles throughout that year.
Kahan’s early music attracted attention from industry figures such as Dan Wilson, and he collaborated with producer Joel Little, known for working with Lorde and Khalid. In 2018, he made his television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, performing "Hurt Somebody." His debut EP, also titled Hurt Somebody, was released in January 2018, including an updated version of the titular song featuring Julia Michaels.
His debut full-length album, Busyhead, was released in June 2019. It included the duet version of "Hurt Somebody" along with singles like "False Confidence" and "Mess." During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kahan recorded the EP Cape Elizabeth at a friend’s home studio in Vermont, releasing it in May 2020. The album was written during his time back in Vermont and reflects a more folk-oriented sound.
In 2021, Kahan announced his second album, I Was / I Am, which was released in September. Leading up to the album, he released singles such as “Part of Me,” “Godlight,” and “Animal.” He also embarked on the I Was / I Am Tour in support of the album. His touring history includes opening for artists like George Ezra, Dean Lewis, and James Bay, as well as supporting his own headlining shows across multiple regions.
Kahan gained significant mainstream success with his third album, Stick Season, released in October 2022. The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200. Prior to its release, he had teased the song "Stick Season" on TikTok, where it became a viral hit. The song achieved chart-topping status internationally, including number 1 on the UK Singles Chart and the Australian ARIA charts. The album's success was further amplified by collaborations with artists such as Post Malone, Lizzy McAlpine, Kacey Musgraves, Hozier, Gracie Abrams, and Sam Fender.
In 2024, Kahan released a deluxe version of Stick Season, titled Stick Season (Forever), which included additional collaborations and new tracks. "Stick Season" reached number 1 on the UK and Australian charts and climbed to number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking his highest position to date. He also released a live album, Live from Fenway Park, and was honored with a dedicated day in Vermont, with proceeds from a benefit concert supporting local mental health organizations. His efforts include founding the Busyhead Project, aimed at providing resources for mental health in Vermont.
